Loading your automatic taper with joint compound might be simple but unless you know the right steps it’s not going to be easy. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you ensure that you’re consistently filling your taper correctly.

Step-By-Step Guide

  1. Set the taper to neutral by toggling the clutch.
  2. Position the filler valve over the gooseneck and insert it.
  3. Allow the taper sleeve to rest between the support arms of the gooseneck.
  4. Secure taper by placing a hand on top while keeping two fingers within the tube.
  5. Pump compound into the taper until the piston is felt nearing the end of the tube, indicating the taper is full.
  6. Disengage the taper from the gooseneck.
  7. Reopen the gate valve (It is easy to check this as the round disc pops out) and turn the drive dog key counterclockwise until both tape and compound advance at the same time.

That’s it!
